Verizon gets Army task orders

Verizon Business will begin installing and upgrading IP networks at five Army installations under five task orders totaling $70.7 million.

The task orders are part of the Installation, Information, Infrastructure Modernization contract for network service centers under the enterprise information systems program. The indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity modernization contract was awarded in 2006 to multiple vendors who are now bidding on individual task orders.

Under the largest task order, valued at $36.9 million, Verizon will upgrade voice, data and cable networks at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., to bring the existing network to the next-generation protocol, known as IPv6.

In addition, Verizon will upgrade networks at Fort Lee in Virginia under a $9.6 million task order; upgrade network facilities at Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands under a $12.9 million task order; expand and upgrade networks at Fort Sill in Oklahoma under a $2.5 million task order; and install fiber-optic cables and infrastructure at Fort Greely in Alaska under a $1.3 million task order.
