CA buys data loss prevention technology

CA Inc. is moving more strongly into the data loss prevention business with its planned acquisition of Orchestria Corp.

Terms of the deal were not released, but the acquisition is expected to close by the end of January.

CA plans to sell and market Orchestria’s data loss prevention technology with CA’s identity management and information security products, the company said.

“Organizations and auditors need to know who has access to data and what they can do with it at a role or user level,” CA said in a statement.

The idea is for organizations to strengthen their security by including information-centric policies through centrally managed users and roles, the company said.

“With this acquisition, CA will deliver one of the broadest and most advanced information security solutions in the market today and address the demand for a new generation of identity and access management,” said Dave Hansen, corporate senior vice president and general manager, CA Security Management.

Orchestria and CA products work to secure information in all states – in motion, at rest and at the endpoint – to help prevent data breaches and support privacy and compliance, the company said.

With the combination of the two technologies, CA customers will be able to control access to data and set policies on how data can be used according to user identity and role, the company said.

Orchestria’s solution is deployed in more than 33 countries and it analyzes, protects and controls more than 100 million electronic actions every day.

This is the third security-related acquisition CA has made in the past three months. CA in November acquired Eurekify and in October it acquired IDFocus.
