Boeing wins C-17 Globemaster support work

Boeing Co. will provide logistics support for all systems on the Air Force’s premier cargo aircraft under a contract worth $1.1 billion.

Under the contract, Boeing Integrated Defense Systems will continue managing the acquisition and material management for the C-17 Globemaster III, company officials said. The Air Force awarded the contract Jan. 12.

The Globemaster Sustainment Partnership program, through which Boeing provides total system support for the C-17, uses a performance-based logistics approach. As a result, the Air Force pays for a specified level of readiness rather than for parts or services, company officials said.

The company has provided performance-based logistics for the C-17 for a decade, the officials added. Boeing supports 182 C-17s for the Air Force and 14 for U.S. allies.

Boeing Integrated Defense Systems, of St. Louis, is a unit of Chicago-based Boeing Co. The parent company ranks No. 2 on Washington Technology’s 2008 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
