L-3 Communications Corp. has bolstered its nation-building capabilities with the acquisition of International Resources Group Ltd.

IRG is a professional services company that specializes in management, policy and training support for U.S. agencies and international development organizations. It operates in 30 countries, L-3 said today in a statement.
Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, but L-3 said that the company should add about $100 million in L-3's revenue in 2009.

IRG helps agencies with energy, environment and natural resource management, relief and reconstruction, and economic development.

"Together we will now be able to offer government agencies, international organizations and foreign nations comprehensive solutions to the most complex requirements of development, institutional capacity building and stability operations," said Carl Vuono, president of L-3's Services Group.

The acquisition of IRG will help L-3 diversify and expand the services it offers customers internationally and in the United States, he said.

L-3, of New York, is ranked No. 8 on Washington Technology's 2008 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
