CSC acquires Bulgarian IT services firm

Computer Sciences Corp. has acquired Object Builder Software (OBS), an information technology services firm in Bulgaria, in an all-cash deal. The specific financial terms were not released.

The acquisition expands CSC’s financial services, global delivery capabilities and network of lower-cost centers in Eastern Europe, providing clients with expanded industry vertical expertise, time zone coverage, and technical and language skills, company officials said. OBS also will expand CSC’s IT capabilities in Europe.

Under the terms of the agreement, all OBS employees are expected to transfer to CSC, providing software development and systems integration support to clients in five languages, English, French, German, Russian and Bulgarian. The majority of OBS employees are in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia with the balance in the Black Sea coastal city of Varna.

The OBS acquisition is part of CSC’s strategy to expand the company's global network by opening centers in locations previously untapped by competitors.

“Bulgaria’s reputation as a low-cost Eastern European country strategically positioned to serve both Western and Eastern Europe enables OBS to operate as a nearshore delivery center for CSC's European clients,” said Mary Jo Morris, president of CSC’s World Sourcing Services organization, in a statement on Dec. 11.

She said OBS has partnered with CSC in the financial services sector for more than 10 years.

CSC, of Falls Church, Va., ranks No. 9 on Washington Technology’s 2008 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
