Deloitte to grow federal practice with Davis, Young
New hires Rep. Tom Davis and Tim Young, the retiring deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget, will help consulting firm Deloitte LLP bolster its growing federal government practice.
Rep. Tom Davis (R-Va.) and Tim Young, the retiring deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget, are joining consulting firm Deloitte LLP to bolster its growing federal government practice.
Davis, who opted not to run for another term, is expected to begin work as a director in Deloitte's Federal Government Services as soon as the current session of Congress ends, said Gene Procknow, managing director of the Federal Government Services. "It could be as early as next week if they conclude the session by Friday," he said. "He's anxious to get on board and get going."
Procknow said Davis was not hired for his celebrity status. "We expect him to be hands-on with our clients" to improve government.
Davis has nearly three decades of public service, including 15 years on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and 13 years in Congress. He served as chairman of the House Government Reform Committee, where he was a strong advocate of the government contracting community. Davis also led the House Technology and Procurement Policy Subcommittee.
Young is scheduled to retire from government Nov. 21 to join Deloitte in January. In 2004, he was named OMB's associate administrator for e-government and information technology to oversee the planning and implementation of e-government priorities, including meeting the goals of the President's Management Agenda.
Davis and Young have skills that will complement one another as members of the same federal practice, Procknow said. "Tim has very, very deep and extensive knowledge in the federal enterprise architecture and federal e-government initiatives."
"Tom has a real technology bent and we expect him to help with some technology innovation," he added.
Deloitte's two high-profile hires will continue the growth path of the federal services practice that Procknow blazed when he arrived at Deloitte in late 2003. The unit has grown in excess of 35 percent year over year and now has about 2000 employees, he said.
"Our plan is to be a half billion dollars [in federal revenue] by the end of next year," Procknow added. "We're on track, and maybe a little ahead of that plan today."
Deloitte is a division of Deloitte and Touche USA, of New York. The parent company ranks No. 55 on Washington Technology's 2008 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
