Alion provides Navy with logistics support

Alion Science and Technology Corp. will help the Navy improve its logistics capabilities under a three-year contract worth $12 million.

The contract calls for Alion to provide operational logistics analysis to the Naval Operational Logistics Support Center. The center is responsible for creating deployment scenarios for naval forces by analyzing, conceiving and integrating logistics models and technologies.

The command helps develop strategy, integration and management concepts for transportation, distribution optimization and strategic mobility training.

Alion will test operational logistics concepts and provide system-centric training to deployable units in the Navy and Coast Guard. The employee-owned company also will conduct analyses to help address capability, manning, training and budget issues, company officials said.

Alion will work to improve supply chain operations, strategic mobility, manning and training, said Greg Bryant, Alion senior vice president and manager of the Integration Solutions Group, in a statement. The team will also apply automated information technology into logistics processes, which will help the Navy standardize these functions and make them more efficient and streamlined, he added.

Alion, of McLean, Va., ranks No. 31 on Washington Technology's 2008 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
