Lockheed to assist Spanish Navy modernization

Lockheed Martin Corp. will provide engineering and computer programming assistance to the Spanish government under a U.S. Navy contract that could be worth as much as $125 million if all options are exercised.

Lockheed's Maritime Systems and Sensors division, of Moorestown, N.J., will oversee the fixed-fee Aegis Combat Systems Engineering contract under the Foreign Military Sales Program. Spain selected the U.S. Navy/Lockheed Martin Aegis Combat System for its F-100 Class Flight II shipbuilding program.

Spain is adopting a variant of the U.S. Navy's Aegis Weapons System cruiser modernization program, which includes commercial computer programming and equipment, to construct the Spanish F-105 Frigate.

Contractual requirements include providing the necessary combat systems engineering, computer program development, ship integration and test, logistics technical services and staging support.

About 90 percent of the work, which is expected to be completed by July 2012, will be performed in Moorestown, and the rest in Spain. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington Navy Yard, D.C., is the contracting activity.
