Boeing sews up Tapestry Solutions buy

Boeing Co. will acquire Tapestry Solutions Inc., a provider of services and software systems to the Defense Department and other government agencies. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Tapestry Solutions' tools, such as the Joint Distribution Logistics Model and Battle Command Support Sustainment System, are designed to improve the tracking and distribution of equipment, spare parts and personnel for the DOD. They are Army standards that increase asset visibility, optimize distribution and enable dynamic logistics planning, Boeing officials said.

The acquisition should accelerate the growth of Boeing's service and support business, Jim Albaugh, president and chief executive officer of Boeing's Integrated Defense Systems, said in a statement. "Boeing has a great opportunity to address an expanding market where we can bring together our proven large-scale integration capabilities with Tapestry Solutions' unique logistics management, decision support systems, and cutting-edge modeling and simulation technologies."

Tapestry Solutions will operate within IDS Global Services and Support. The San Diego-based company has approximately 350 employees, 150 of whom are embedded with customers in Iraq and at other operational locations.

The acquisition is expected to close by the end of October after regulatory approvals.

Boeing IDS is based in St. Louis. The Chicago-based parent company ranks No. 2 on Washington Technology's 2008 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
