LGS tasked with Army network upgrade

LGS has won a $6.4 million task order from the Army to upgrade and modernize the communications infrastructure at Fort Polk, La.

Under the award, LGS will conduct infrastructure and optical fiber upgrades that will support activities at the training center and military facility.

The work entails installing a pair of communications shelters, consolidating communications nodes and upgrading the core hardware to 10 gigabits, furnishing one gigabit to each connected building, company officials said.
Fort Polk, located in Leesville, La., is the site of the Army's Joint Readiness Training Center.

The Army awarded the task order through its Infrastructure Modernization contract. The work is being done as part of the Installation Information Infrastructure Program managed by the Network Service Center at Fort Monmouth, N.J.

LGS, of Vienna, Va., designs and installs communications solutions and conducts research and development work for the federal government. The company is a unit of Alcatel-Lucent.
