General Dynamics to help reduce Navy workplace hazards

General Dynamics Information Technology will assist the Navy in spotting and eliminating naval facility hazards under a five-year contract that could be worth as much as $60 million.

The General Services Administration award calls for GDIT to support the Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest Mishap Prevention and Hazard Abatement program.

Under the contract, General Dynamics IT will provide a variety of safety engineering services to examine and determine the severity of potential site hazards and then develop long-term solutions that are safe, cost-effective and, in many cases, able to be implemented at naval bases and sites worldwide.

The professional technical solutions that GDIT develops and implements comply with high safety standards set by the Defense Department, Navy and Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

"Our workplace safety expertise from multiple disciplines allows us to support the U.S. Navy, from the initial issue examination through project completion," said Ken Slaght, vice president and general manager of Maritime Systems at GDIT.

General Dynamics Information Technology is a unit of General Dynamics Corp., of Falls Church, Va., which ranks No. 6 on Washington Technology's 2008 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
