Duffey departs Dell, Muehleman named successor

Jim Duffey, who joined Dell Inc. in December 2007 as vice president and general manager of the Public Business Group, is leaving the company at the end of the month.

"He is leaving to pursue other opportunities and to spend more time with his family in the Washington area," a company spokesperson told Washington Technology.

Frank Muehleman, formerly leader of Dell's small and medium business group, will replace Duffey as VP of the group.

Three months after Duffey joined Dell from EDS Corp., Dell's former government group was expanded to include the federal, state and local, education and health care sectors.

The federal sector now focuses on providing the homeland security and intelligence agencies with laptop and desktop PCs, servers, and storage products and solutions. Other groups are devoted to the civilian agencies; defense; systems integration; state, local and education; and health care markets.

Before joining Dell in 1998, Muehleman was president of Psion Inc. in charge of sales, marketing, technical support and customer service for North America. Previously, he was a consultant at Bain and Co., where he worked with small and large businesses, including two years with Dell.

Muehleman has an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Cornell University.
