Boeing locks onto Navy UAV effort
Boeing Co. won contract from the Naval Air Systems Command to help provide unmanned aerial vehicles offering intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance services.
The Boeing Co. won a $65 million contract from the Naval Air Systems Command to help provide unmanned aerial vehicles offering intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance services.
The services are aimed at supporting the global war on terror, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. The UAVs are for sea-based deployments and land-based detachments.
The work to be performed in Bingen, Wash., and St. Louis is expected to be completed in May 2009. The Naval Air Systems Command, of Patuxent River, Md., is the contracting organization.
According to NAVAIR's Naval UAS Newsletter, the Navy and Marine Corps maintain Unmanned Aircraft System Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance service contracts through their respective acquisition commands.
Boeing, of Chicago, ranks No. 2 on Washington Technology's 2008 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
