Trace Systems LLC, a McLean, Va., systems integrator and technical services company, has acquired TCP Network Solutions Inc., of Eatontown, N.J.

The deal brings Trace Systems more capabilities in defense information technology and communications, the company said. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"The acquisition of TCPNS is part of our strategy to establish Trace Systems as a contractor of choice within the Department of Defense," said Otto Hoernig III, president and chief executive officer of Trace Systems.

TCPNS has been working with the Army in Afghanistan and at Fort Monmouth and Fort Dix, N.J.

The company's work includes the design, integration and testing of next-generation tactical communications and wireless networking solutions, as well as continuing IT and networking support, Hoernig said.

Trace Systems provides IT, communications and other command and control services and solutions to defense, homeland security and intelligence customers.

Acquisitions are an important part of Trace Systems' strategy, Hoernig said. Most of the deals the company is considering are in the $10 million to $25 million range.

"We are always looking for companies that have proven past performance, key capabilities and contracts, a strong team and a dedication to customer mission and success," he said. "TCPNS was an obvious match for us."

Under the agreement, the co-founders of TCPNS ? Matt Sodano and Jason Borkowsky ? will continue as vice presidents of Trace Communications and Professional Network Solutions Inc., now a wholly owned subsidiary of Trace Systems. Terry Severson, formerly vice president of operations at Trace Systems, will serve as president of the new subsidiary.
