Maximus extends L.A. County welfare-to-work deal

Maximus will continue supplying employment and supportive services for welfare-to-work initiatives in Los Angeles County under a nine-month, $8.1 million contract extension.

Maximus handles welfare case management services in two of the county's seven Department of Public Social Services regions through the Los Angeles Greater Avenues to Independence program. These services help program participants secure and maintain long-term employment.

The program offers a wide range of services, such as remedial and vocational education, training-in-life skills and English-as-a-second-language courses. Participants also receive various other services that include housing location assistance and family support assistance.

The company has worked with Los Angeles County since 2000, company officials said. Maximus also provides welfare-to-work services in neighboring Orange and San Diego Counties.

Maximus, of Reston, Va., provides program management, consulting and information technology services to government clients.
