GD to build data system for Marines

General Dynamics C4 Systems will put together a data distribution system for the Marine Corps under a five-year, $375 million contract, the Defense Department said yesterday.

Under the terms of the contract, the General Dynamics unit will provide a modular data distribution system for the Marines Corps' tactical data network. The company will do the work in Taunton, Mass., where it has a facility.

The modular data distribution system will provide IP-based data routing, information processing and storage, and network extension capabilities to Marine forces in the field, according to solicitation documents.

The project's objective is to provide Marine Corps units with modular, scalable IP data transport capabilities that will supplement or replace older systems. The work is scheduled to be completed by March 2013, DOD said.

The Marine Corps Systems Command in Quantico, Va., awarded the contract.

General Dynamics C4 Systems is a unit of General Dynamics Corp. of Falls Church, Va. General Dynamics ranks No. 7 on Washington Technology's 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
