EDS opts for Nexagent

EDS Corp. has acquired Nexagent, a provider of hardware and software solutions for networks and advanced IP-based services. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Nexagent, based in Reading, England, develops software tools that enable telecommunications carriers, systems integrators and virtual network operators to automate and accelerate the design, installation and management of clients' IP virtual private networks. That capability is particularly valuable when a network connection includes multiple carriers and regions, EDS said.

The company said the acquisition is part of its ongoing investment in networking services and its Global Services Network, which connects more than 500 EDS service delivery sites worldwide to clients via a single, secure and fully redundant network.

Nexagent brings to EDS its Lifecycle Management System and Multi-Carrier Interconnect System, the underlying technology for connecting EDS' carrier partners to its Global Services Network.

By buying Nexagent's software, resources and technology, EDS will reduce connection expense and installation time for bringing clients into the EDS network, said Ray Thietten, vice president of global network services at EDS.

Under the terms of the acquisition, Nexagent employees will become employees of EDS, reporting to the Global Network Services center at Stockley Park, near Reading.

EDS, of Plano, Texas, ranks No. 10 on Washington Technology's 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
