USPS picks AT&T for software services

AT&T Government Solutions will provide software engineering services to the U.S. Postal Service under a task order that could be worth $20 million. The task order covers the USPS's automated mail processing and sorting systems.

The company will provide independent verification and validation services, software configuration management and other services to the USPS Engineering Software Process Management group.

"When you deliver 200 billion-plus pieces of mail a year, a sound approach to enhancing your software architecture is a key to generating efficiencies," said John Klebonis, Jr., vice president of professional services at AT&T.

The task order spans five years, including a two-year base and three one-year optional extensions. The USPS issued the task order under the Integrated Business System Solutions Ordering Agreement contract.

AT&T Government Solutions, which is based in Vienna, Va., is a unit of AT&T Inc. of San Antonio. The parent company ranks No. 67 on Washington Technology's 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
