Lockheed to boost IRS e-services

Lockheed Martin Corp. will work with the Internal Revenue Service to help tax professionals and taxpayers more easily conduct business electronically under a new four-year, $33 million contract.

Lockheed Martin will operate and update the IRS' e-Services suite of applications, which are designed to increase electronic filing and improve user services. E-Services include customer registration, taxpayer identification number and bulk matching, e-File, electronic account resolution and transcript delivery. Lockheed Martin also will oversee the IRS' e-Services infrastructure.

Applying new technology to these processes will help reduce errors, increase system up-time and lower costs for the IRS while supporting critical government initiatives such as the president's e-Government Agenda and the Paperwork Elimination Act, said Joseph Cipriano, president of business process solutions at Lockheed Martin.

Lockheed Martin also supports the IRS through a variety of other functions, including improving and expediting taxpayer services, regulatory compliance and audits and examinations.
