EDS to keep Californians moving with DMV work

EDS Corp. will work with California to provide better services to the state's 23 million licensed drivers, thanks to a $76 million contract from the Department of Motor Vehicles.

The six-year information technology modernization project will improve California's ability to provide essential vehicular services by installing new commercially available applications and databases to manage DMV's driver's licensing and vehicle registration processes.

There were 33.8 million registered vehicles in California in 2007, DMV said.

The upgraded infrastructure will give the citizens of California and DMV employees greater access to motoring information and improve DMV's ability to rapidly make changes to the system, EDS said.

EDS will use the technical capabilities and experience of Saber Software Inc., a provider of software and services to state governments, in implementing the contract. EDS purchased Saber in December.

The contracting team includes both small and disabled veteran-owned businesses. The small-business participants are Computer Deductions Inc., NexLevel Information Technology Inc. and SumRall Solutions LLC; while the disabled veteran-owned team members are KT Consulting Inc. and Trinity Government Systems Inc.

Other companies working with EDS on the contract are Datatrend Technologies Inc., Supreme Soft Inc. and Trinity Millennium Group Inc.
