Verizon to upgrade communications at Fort Huachuca

Verizon Business will modernize communications infrastructure and systems at the Army's Fort Huachuca in Arizona under a new task order worth up to $20 million.

Under the task order, which spans 30 months, Verizon's work will support increased bandwidth and converged communications at the base.

The Army awarded the task order through the $4 billion Infrastructure Modernization contract, specifically created to cover telecommunications and network capabilities at its facilities. Verizon is one of 10 prime contractors on the vehicle.

Fort Huachuca, located southeast of Tucson, houses the Army's Intelligence Center, the Joint Interoperability Test Command and the Army Network Enterprise Technology Command/9th Army Signal Command.

Verizon Business is an operating unit of New York-based Verizon Communications Inc., which ranks No. 19 on Washington Technology's 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
