NIC to design new portal for W.Va.

NIC Inc. won a new contract from the state of West Virginia to operate its official Web site for up to three years. The one-year contract has two one-year options.

Under the terms of the agreement, NIC will deploy a self-funded model and provide the infrastructure and staffing to develop, maintain and host the e-government portal, the company said.

NIC is working with state agencies and the West Virginia Management Steering Committee to identify and prioritize new applications to introduce in the contract's first year. The company expects to launch some new services before the end of the year.

The company did not respond in time for this story to a request for the contract value.

NIC, based in Olathe, Kan., operates 21 state portals. It has 340 employees and had annual revenue of $71 million in 2006.
