Iowa's Gillispie elected NASCIO president

Iowa Chief Information Officer John Gillispie has been elected president of the National Association of State CIOs for the 2007-2008 term. Gillispie succeeds Michigan CIO Teri Takai.

NASCIO held its annual meeting earlier this week in Tucson, Ariz. The group tackled such hot topics as green IT, shared services, e-government, data breaches, electronic records and more.

Earlier this week the group released a report, "The State IT Workforce: Here Today, Gone Tomorrow" that asserts more than a quarter of state IT employees could retire within the next five years, and that states lack a clear plan to address a possibly acute labor shortage.

Other officers for the new term are:

• Gopal Khanna, Minnesota CIO, who will serve as vice president.
  
• Gary Robinson, Washington CIO, who will serve as secretary/treasurer.
  
• Teri Takai, Michigan CIO, who will serve as past president.
