DRS to buttress Pentagon security

DRS Technologies Inc. will provide full-time alarm monitoring and customer call center coverage within the Pentagon Force Protection Agency's command center under a $9.5 million follow-on contract. The Washington Headquarters Service awarded DRS the contract.

The contract continues the services that Parsippany, N.J.-based DRS has already provided for the past seven years, and will continue to be accomplished by the company's DRS Technical Services unit in Dulles, Va.

This contract is in addition to, and coincides with, the company's recently awarded $38 million contract from the Pentagon Force Protection Agency to install and maintain the automated and integrated physical security systems at the Pentagon and other Defense Department facilities.

For the last 10 years DRS has provided procurement, design, installation and maintenance work on an Integrated Security and Identification System contract from the Crane Division, U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center. The alarm monitoring contract, like the automated and integrated physical security systems contract, will entail the same work as before but will be an Integrated Security Services Contract from the Pentagon Force Protection Agency and Washington Headquarters Service.

In response to the terrorist attack against the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001, the DOD established the Pentagon Force Protection Agency combining the Pentagon's police force, formerly known as the Defense Protective Service, and its role of providing basic law enforcement and security for the Pentagon and DOD interests.
