DOD extends TCS satellite contract

TeleCommunication Systems Inc. will continue to support spectrum management of the Wideband Global Satcom Satellite system under a new contract worth about $8 million. The new contract is a follow-on to a $700,000 deal the Annapolis, Md.-based company had first won in January 2007.

The contract also calls for TCS to continue providing support for the monitoring and service of the Defense Satellite Communications System satellites. The Wideband Control Program Office of Project Manager, Defense Communications and Army Transmission Systems contracting authority at Ft. Monmouth, N.J., made the contract award. It spans three years. The contract comes through the $5 billion World-Wide Satellite Systems contract vehicle, on which TCS is one of six prime contractors eligible to compete for work.

The Wideband Global SATCOM system is a new system that continues and adds to the services the Defense Department currently gets through the DSCS.

TCS will use a satellite monitoring system provided by its Los Altos, Calif.-based partner, Glowlink Communications Technology Inc.
