BearingPoint to upgrade Navy IT network

BearingPoint Inc. will lead a team to design and operate a secure, battle-ready global information technology network for the Naval Network Warfare Command.

The five-year contract has a ceiling of $57.9 million. BearingPoint's subcontractors include CACI International Inc.; Lockheed Martin Corp.; Target Systems, a woman-owned, veteran-owned business in Mechanicsburg, Pa., and TKC Technology Solutions LLC, an Alaskan Native corporation with offices in Anchorage and Fairfax, Va.

The team will develop broad business transformation strategies, as well as a variety of information technology and consulting services. These services include replacing current networks with Navy-Marine Corps Intranet; reducing the number of older applications; developing account and file-sharing processes and policies; and performing hardware and software technical upgrades.

NMCI is the Navy's link to the Global Information Grid?an all-encompassing Defense Department communications project?and provides a secure, integrated way to conduct net-centric operations throughout the service. The move to upgrade all personnel to NMCI and eliminate costly, less secure legacy IT systems is a top priority for the Navy, BearingPoint said.

The management and technology consulting company has worked with the Naval Network Warfare Command's NMCI program office since its inception in 1999, designing many of its processes and tools.
