BearingPoint gets Calif. DMV work

BearingPoint Inc. has won a two-year, $14.1 million contract from the California Department of Motor Vehicles to provide a new Web portal for the department.
Under the contract, BearingPoint of McLean, Va., will design, implement and support the portal. The new portal will help the state address the requirements of the Real ID Act, the company said in a news release.
Equally important, the project will help make the portal more secure and intuitive for residents when they conduct transactions, said Gary Miglicco, vice president of BearingPoint's National Motor Vehicle practice.
The portal also will help residents save time when conducting business with the department, he said.
California's DMV issues more than eight million drivers' licenses and identification cards annually. The department also sends 90 million pieces of mail, issues or renews more than 33 million vehicle registrations and fulfills 135 million requests for information annually.
BearingPoint ranks No. 24 on Washington Technology's 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
