Alion to help Navy open Strategic Mobility Office

Alion Science and Technology Corp. won an 18-month, $2.6 million Navy contract to provide logistics management services for the new Strategic Mobility Office the Navy will open in Norfolk, Va.

The new facility, located in the Naval Operational Logistics Support Center, will be responsible for deployment planning and execution for all naval forces as the Navy moves from a service-centric philosophy to planning and operating in a joint forces environment.

Alion's work includes writing the Navy's comprehensive Force Deployment Planning and Execution policy and the Navy Tactics, Techniques and Procedures guidance.

Under the contract, Alion will work with individual naval units and commands to improve the accuracy of logistics data and make sure inventory levels are at optimal levels. They will help the Transportation Command to ensure efficient delivery of naval material worldwide and also coordinate with Joint Task Force commanders to make sure of effective and efficient deployment planning and execution.

In addition to the Strategic Mobility Office project, Alion next year will begin working with all Navy deployable forces to ensure the accuracy of their logistics data, said Greg Bryant, senior vice president and manager of Alion's Integrated Solutions Group.
