ACS inks Florida Medicaid services deal

Affiliated Computer Services has won a contract from the Florida Health Care Administration to develop best practices for prescription drugs provided through the state's Medicaid program.

Affiliated Computer Services Inc. has won a contract worth $11 million from the Florida Health Care Administration to develop best practices for prescription drugs provided through the state's Medicaid program. The contract term is four and a half years.

The Dallas-based company will work with the state's Agency for Healthcare Administration to develop and implement best practices strategies to provide information to physicians, pharmacists and patients on the cost-effective use of prescription drugs by the state's Medicaid recipients. The approach is known as drug therapy management.

ACS will provide several technology solutions to the state, including criteria development and analysis, population health management and Web-enabled electronic records applications.

One of the electronic records solutions is designed to help health care providers make what the agency considers to be sound clinical prescribing decisions, while the other enables a physician to access a patient's medical information through a secure Web site.

Affiliated Computer Services ranks No. 58 on Washington Technology's 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
