CSC-Raytheon gets AF range support contract

A joint venture led by Computer Sciences Corp. will provide technical services at the Air Force's Eastern Range under an $820 million contract.

Under the contract, Computer Sciences and Raytheon will provide operation and maintenance services for instrumentation, communications and information systems for the Air Force Space Command. The Eastern Range is headquartered at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida.

The joint venture is between CSC's Applied Technology Division and Raytheon Technical Services Co. The contract runs for 10 months and has nine one-year options, which would bring the total value to $820 million.

The contract is a follow-on award for the joint venture. CSR provides range technical services to all manned and unmanned launches from Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Air Station.

The joint venture will support a number of systems, including radar, optical and global positioning system-based tracking, telemetry, range safety data processing, command destruct, meteorological systems and associated computer, communications and timing systems. The joint venture also will provide mission planning, systems analysis and remote base operations and maintenance.

The Eastern Range covers about 15 million square miles, CSC said.

CSC ranks No. 11 on Washington Technology's 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
