BearingPoint wins Kosovo aid deal

BearingPoint Inc. will foster economic development in Kosovo under a three-year, $20 million contract from the U.S. Agency for International Development.

The award comes under USAID's Support for Economic Growth and Institutional Reform Macro II contract.

Bearing Point will work with Kosovo's Ministry of Finance and Economy, Tax Administration, Ministry of Energy and Mining and the Central Bank Authority to develop and strengthen those institutions so they meet European Union and international standards.

The contract also calls for BearingPoint to help stimulate trade and investment in the former Yugoslav territory by introducing modern commercial laws. To achieve this, the company will assist the government in developing strategies to bring private sector participation to publicly owned enterprises and help Kosovo's energy sector become more efficient and transparent.

BearingPoint's Emerging Markets practice is working in about 50 nations, providing management, economic and technology consulting services to developed and developing economies. The company has provided technical assistance in broad economic policy to Kosovo on behalf of USAID since 1999, when the southern Serbian region came under United Nations administration.
