Va. city taps Tyler for ERP work

Tyler Technologies Inc. has won a contract from Newport News, Va., to provide enterprise resource planning software to help the city improve its financial and human resource operations. The contract is valued at nearly $2.8 million, the company said.

Under the contract, Tyler will provide its Munis Financial Management Solution, professional services and ongoing maintenance and support.

The city purchased Tyler's ERP software through the National Joint Powers Alliance, a Minnesota-based cooperative purchasing alliance for schools and local governments.

The city expects to reap substantial benefits from its use of Tyler's Munis financial management software, Randy Hildebrandt, Newport News city manager, said in a company news release. Specifically, the company expects to experience significant improvements in data availability, reporting, query, functionality and reliability, he said.

Newport News has a population of about 180,000 and ranks among the 125 largest cities in the nation.

Dallas-based Tyler specializes in providing information management solutions and services to local governments.
