Maximus to help Calif. manage recycling

Maximus Inc. has won a $16.1 million contract from the California Conservation Department to design and manage the state's Division of Recycling Integrated Information System.

Under the four-year DORIIS contract, Maximus will handle collection, payment processing, customer relationship management, and management information system needs.

Using scalable software based on Oracle's E-Business Suite, the new system will provide comprehensive, accurate beverage container recycling information that will help improve recycling rates, reduce reimbursement fraud and increase cash flow.

Additionally, the system is expected to help lower state and local government recycling costs through reduced local landfill use and increased revenue to local governments from the fees on recycled containers.

"This is not simply a system implementation project, but a true business process reengineering and change management effort," said Richard Montoni, Maximus' chief executive officer.
