Lockheed buys simulation training company

Lockheed Martin Corp. has acquired 3Dsolve Inc., a provider of simulation-based learning solutions for government, military and corporate applications. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The acquisition will strengthen Lockheed Martin's initiatives in the rapidly growing training and simulation market, said Dale Bennett, president of Lockheed's Simulation, Training and Support division.

3Dsolve's core competencies include multi-media, software engineering, digital artwork, instructional design and project management for use in simulation learning solutions. The Cary, N.C.-based company's software tools offer clients collaborative training methods using interactive 3D graphics.

3DSolve's employees and software products will remain in Cary, and will become fully integrated into Lockheed Martin's Simulation, Training and Support division, which is based in Orlando, Fla. The division supplies simulation and training solutions, military logistics support and test equipment to the government and international customers. Richard Boyd, chief executive officer of 3Dsolve, has been named director of Lockheed Martin 3D Learning Systems.
