Harris to sell Pakistani Army HF radios

Harris Corp., an international communications and information technology company, has won a $76 million contract from the government of Pakistan to supply the Pakistani Army with Falcon II high-frequency tactical radios.

Under terms of the contract, Harris will provide an unspecified number of Falcon II RF-5800H, an advanced, high-frequency single sideband VHF-FM system that provides reliable and secure tactical communications. Single sideband radios provide voice communications beyond the range of VHF. Depending upon the modulation method used, SSB radios are excellent for worldwide voice and data communications, according to Harris.

Harris also will supply ancillary and support equipment, spare and repair parts, training and logistics support.

This is Pakistan's second large order for Harris Falcon radios in the past three years, the company said. In 2005, the Pakistani government placed a $68 million order. The contracts make Harris a key supplier of next-generation tactical HF radios to the Pakistani Army.

Harris of Melbourne, Fla., ranks No. 21 on Washington Technology's 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
