AT&T to expand Postal Service's VPN

AT&T Government Solutions will upgrade 1,800 U.S. Postal Services facilities with AT&T's enhanced virtual private network service under a new task order.

The task order, worth up to $22 million, will increase the total number of AT&T-managed EVPN sites to more than 5,500. The Postal Service issued the order under the Postal Advanced Telecommunications Network contract.

EVPN provides seamless, integrated high-speed connectivity across the Postal Service network. AT&T has up to three years to complete the work.

The platform also gives the Postal Service a tool to use other AT&T services, including VoIP and security and disaster recovery offerings, said Don Herring, senior vice president of AT&T Government Solutions.

AT&T will provide managed services, including engineering, design, installation and network management.

AT&T, based in San Antonio, ranks No. 67 on Washington Technology's 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
