The Army has awarded TeleCommunication Systems Inc. an increase to its contract to provide satellite communications equipment and services to support the Army and Marine teams that help train other nations' military forces.
The U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Lifecycle Management Command at Fort Monmouth, N.J., awarded the $3.5 million contract increase, which brings TCS' total potential revenues through the Army's World-Wide Satellite Systems contract to $14.4 million.
The services support Military Transition Teams or MiTTs, which advise security forces in the areas of intelligence, communications, fire support, logistics and infantry tactics. The teams work with other countries that are allied with the U.S., whether in active combat zones such as Iraq and Afghanistan, or in other parts of the world.
TCS will provide additional terminals, spare parts and field support engineers to MiTTs under the contract increase. The first deliverables under this contract were Very Small Aperture Terminals with multimedia communication capabilities to convey encrypted voice, video and imagery data.
TCS is based in Annapolis, Md.
