New Alion team to support spectrum relocation

Anticipating a coming government mandate to move communications to a different band of radio frequencies, Alion Science and Technology Corp. has created a team of spectrum technology experts.

The government is under a mandate to migrate from the 1710-1755 MHz band in order to allow advanced wireless devices to use the frequencies. Alion created the team with its Washington Consulting unit, in partnership with ATDI Inc. Alion and ATDI are both based in McLean, Va.

ATDI makes software called HTZ Warfare, which is a planning to tool.

"The current spectrum relocation effort is largely unprecedented," said Rick Meidenbauer, a senior vice president and manager of the Spectrum Engineering Group at Alion. "Our relocation team brings together the right engineering talent with proven technology to help lower the risk and smooth the process for any government agency."

To assist the relocation process, Alion has developed a knowledge portal that outlines the steps agencies need to go through to complete the relocation, and the data and approvals needed to accomplish each step.

Alion ranks No. 79 on Washington Technology's 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
