NCI snaps up Karta Technologies

NCI Inc.'s acquisition of Karta Technologies Inc. opens up new opportunities for the company in health care, training and distance learning.

With its acquisition of Karta Technologies Inc., NCI Inc. adds several new markets and capabilities including health care, training and distance learning. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Karta of San Antonio brings new customers with defense and civilian agencies as well as adds 400 employees to NCI. Karta's annual revenue falls in the $55 million to $60 million range. NCI has about 1,900 employees and had 2006 revenue of $218.3 million.

"In essence, we are combining two highly successful, profitable companies with proven performance histories and similar cultures, visions and values," said Charles Narang, NCI chairman and chief executive officer.

The acquisition of Karta fits several of NCI's objectives, such as opening new Defense Department markets and adding new task order contracts, company officials said. In addition to health care, training and distance learning, the acquisition also adds new engineering capabilities to NCI.

The investment bank BB&T Capital Markets/Windsor Group served as an advisor to Karta.

NCI of Reston, Va., ranks No. 96 on Washington Technology's 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
