Three companies to train peacekeepers
L-3 Communications, Northrop Grumman and Blackwater USA were awarded the State Department contract.
Three companies have won a contract from the State Department to train peacekeeping troops.
Officials at L-3 Communications Corp. of New York and Northrop Grumman Corp. of Los Angeles confirmed they won prime contracts to compete for tasks in support of the department's Global Peace Operations Initiative.
The third company reportedly is Blackwater USA of Moyock, N.C. Officials at Blackwater could not be reached for this story.
The companies will compete for tasks through a five-year indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract with a potential total value of $200 million, Northrop Grumman said.
The State Department created the initiative to provide well-trained troops for various peacekeeping missions around the globe.
The training services in the contract range from multinational command post exercises and the development of training products to in-country train-the-trainer instruction, Northrop Grumman said.
