L-3 Communications Inc. is the new owner of portable satellite communications gear provider Global Communications Solutions Inc., Victor, N.Y. The acquisition was announced last month.The newly acquired company, renamed L-3 GCS, has annual sales of about$90 million, New York-based L-3 said.CapRock Communications Inc. of Houston has completed its acquisition, announced in February, of communications provider Arrowhead Global Solutions Inc.Arrowhead of Fairfax, Va., will be a wholly owned subsidiary of CapRock. Mary Ann Elliott will continue as Arrowhead's chairman and chief executive officer.L-1 Identity Solutions Inc. of Stamford, Conn., will buy Advanced Concepts Inc., a provider of information technology services to the U.S. intelligence and military communities, for $71.5 million.Columbia, Md.-based ACI will operate as a division of L-1 and maintain its current operations and headquarters.Affiliated Computer Services Inc. of Dallas bought certain software assets from integrated eligibility software developer Albion Inc. for $25.5 million.The Atlanta company's @Vantage software will expand ACI's health and human services management offerings for state programs such as food stamps and Medicaid.Computer Sciences Corp. will buy application maintenance and development outsourcer Covansys Corp. for $1.3 billion in cash.Covansys, headquartered in Farmington Hills, Mich., has 5,500 employees in its India subsidiary. The buy will double CSC's presence in that country.Private investment firm J.F. Lehman and Co. of New York will buy the inertial products business of BAE Systems North America Inc., Rockville, Md., for $140 million.The division sells inertial sensors and measurement units for aircraft and other weapons platforms and munitions.Fast Search & Transfer ASA will pay $23 million for Needham, Mass.-based Convera Corp.'s RetrievalWare search business.Federal government customers are bracing for the change, but intelligence and defense agencies may face more disruption than civilian customers, because Oslo, Norway-based FAST is not a U.S. company. FAST likely will partner with an American company to address that issue.ManTech International Corp. has closed its $170 million cash and credit acquisition of SRS Technologies Inc.The acquisition will broaden the company's footprint in the high-end intelligence, homeland security and defense markets, the company said.SRS of Newport Beach, Calif., specializes in space-based radar and communications; chemical, biological, conventional and nuclear weapons detection and defense programs; and imagery intelligence.
