DRS tapped for military night vision systems

DRS Technologies Inc. will provide a variety of night vision systems and products to the Defense Supply Center Columbus through a five-year, $139 million contract.

The Defense Supply Center Columbus is one of three inventory control points for the Department of Defense's Defense Logistics Agency.

DRS' Night Vision Systems Inc. business unit in Allentown, Pa., and Prescott Valley, Ariz., will perform the work. The company will provide the center with combat identification devices, night vision systems, handheld and weapon-mounted thermal imaging systems and lasers for aiming, pointing and illuminating.

Some of the products included in the contract are:

• MX2A, a handheld and ruggedized thermal imager that weighs approximately two pounds and is used by military commands and law enforcement agencies for patrolling and surveillance operations;
  
• 4-power (4X) and 6-power (6X) Raptor, a night vision product that can be mounted on almost any weapon and is designed for long-range accuracy;
  
• GCP-2C, a weapon aiming device that may be used at ranges of up to 12 kilometers; and
  
• GloTape combat identification devices.
