Indus Corp. won an Environmental Protection Agency contract to provide service-oriented architecture information technology for EPA's Office of Water.

The deal, which was awarded under the Commerce Department's Commerce Information Technology Solutions NexGen governmentwide acquisition contract, has a potential value of more than $10 million over five years.

Indus has been working with the Office of Water to install EPA's new National Hydrography Dataset program, or NHDPlus. The new program adds sophisticated computer-generated data to the basic NHD program to help hydrologists ascertain where groundwater has come from and where it is going.

The data enhances the analytical capability of the basic program to scientifically investigate flood plains, rivers and other bodies of water. NHDPlus is the first national dataset that ties the landscape to the surface water network for quantifying and studying the impact of land-based actions on water.

Indus has also been involved in upgrading EPA's Watershed Assessment, Tracking and Environmental Results architecture and services, an integrated information system of the nation's surface waters. Under this approach, program databases are connected to the basic program's digital network of surface water features.

Indus has successfully completed over 40 task orders for the Office of Water during the past 15 years.

Indus of Vienna, Va., has more than 550 employees and annual revenue of $100 million.
