Cubic lines up training center subcontract

Cubic Corp. won a $19.9 million subcontract from Science Applications International Corp. to help operate and maintain the battle command training center at Fort Lewis, Wash.

Under the subcontract, Cubic's Training and Education Division will deliver a full range of live, virtual and built simulation support. The work entails planning, designing and building databases, configuring facilities and training soldiers to operate simulations.

Fort Lewis is the home base of the Army's I Corps and a number of other units, including two of the Army's Stryker Brigades. Strykers are eight-wheeled, all-wheel-drive, armored combat vehicles that were first deployed to Iraq in 2003. The I Corps serves under the U.S. Army Pacific Command.

Established in 2005, the Fort Lewis battle command training center provides digital training to warfighters and offers network connectivity to military outposts throughout the Middle East and Asia-Pacific region. Cubic has supported the training center, and its predecessor, for 12 years.

Cubic's Training and Education Division is part of the company's Mission Support Business unit within Cubic Defense Applications.
