Alion launches into Navy torpedo program work

Alion Science and Technology Corp. will help develop the next generation of torpedoes for the Navy under a one-year, $8.3 million contract option awarded to the company by the Naval Sea Systems Command.

The work is for the Undersea Weapons Joint Program Office, a partnership between the U.S. Navy and the Royal Australian Navy to develop the heavyweight torpedoes. The initial 10-year support contract was valued at $75 million.

The subcontractors working with Alion's Acquisitions Program Management Group are BearingPoint Inc., McLean, Va., and EDO Corp., New York.

The contracting team will provide program, project and financial management services. It also will perform business and command operations, engineering and lifecycle support.
