CSC wins U.K. outsourcing extension

Computer Sciences Corp. won a two-year, $40 million contract extension from the United Kingdom Health Department to continue providing information technology outsourcing services.

Under the contract, CSC of El Segundo, Calif., will continue providing infrastructure and applications support services to about 4,500 health professionals at the department.

Beverly Bryant, the department's CIO, said that CSC has worked diligently with the department to present a common brand and deliver seamless service to its customers. "They have worked hard to ensure that their agenda is aligned to match the changing needs of the department," Bryant said.

CSC first began working with the U.K. Health Department in 2002. The extension to the existing contract means that CSC will handle IT services for the department through 2011, the company said.

The United Kingdom Health Department does not directly run the country's National Health Service but does set and communicate the overall strategic direction for it. Moreover, the department monitors the standard and safety of services in NHS and the nation's social care organizations.

CSC has about 77,000 employees and had annual sales of $14.7 billion in 2006. The company ranks No. 5 on Washington Technology's 2006 Top 100 list of the largest federal IT contractors.
