ACS nets fare collection deal with Mexico City

Affiliated Computer Services Inc. will deliver an automated fare collection system to the metro transit authority for Mexico City through a $9.3 million contract.

Under the contract, ACS of Dallas will furnish Mexico City metro operator Sistema de Transporte Colectivo with a contactless ticketing system. As many as four million riders use the Mexico City metro daily.

In the course of its work, ACS will equip 2,000 platform access gates with contactless card readers and deploy manual and automatic ticketing kiosks. The company also will outfit each metro station with a supervision system and data compiler, as well as a fiber-optic intelligent communication network.

ACS has deployed similar contactless ticketing systems in major cities in Australia, Canada, France and Switzerland.

ACS has more than 58,000 employees and had annual sales of $5.3 billion in fiscal 2006. The company ranks No. 48 on Washington Technology's 2006 Top 100 list of the largest federal IT contractors.
