The initial order is worth $10.8 million and will be delivered over the next six months, the company said in a release. It is part of a three-year task-order contract that includes logistical support.
TeleCommunication Systems of Annapolis, Md., will supply its SwiftLink satellite communications terminals. The terminals are a type of VSAT (very small aperture terminal). TeleCommunication Systems also will supply maintenance services to support the Army's Military Transition Team.
The VSATs will let the Army transmit and receive encrypted voice, video and imagery data via satellite.
TeleCommunication Systems' win is part of a $5 billion procurement vehicle known as World-Wide Satellite Systems, worth $5 billion. Several companies, including TeleCommunication Systems, are competing for work under that contract.
WWSS is open to all federal agencies and is used for a variety of satellite communications needs including disaster relief and homeland security efforts.
