NCI gives VA regional system a checkup

NCI Inc. won a three-year, $6.7 million task order to modernize the Veterans Affairs Pittsburgh Healthcare System.

The integrated health care system serves more than 360,000 veterans throughout the tri-state area of Western Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia.

The VA awarded the task to NCI through the Global Information Technology Support Services contract.

The Pittsburgh Healthcare System was approved in 2004 for a $200 million major construction project. The purpose of this project is to consolidate the three-division health care system into two divisions, accommodate the current and projected workload and provide a state-of-the-art, improved care environment while reducing operating expenses, and enhancing services, according the system's Web site.

In fiscal 2005 the system served 56,468 veterans and completed 452,599 outpatient visits.

NCI has 1,400 employees and had annual revenue of $191.3 million in fiscal 2005. The The company ranks No. 71 on Washington Technology's 2006 Top 100 list of the largest federal IT contractors.
