GlobeComm gets more NATO force tracking work

GlobeComm Systems Inc. will deliver additional technology to support a system that tracks friendly forces for NATO through a $13.1 million contract.

Under the contract, GlobeComm of Hauppauge, N.Y., will expand NATO's global positioning satellite-based friendly force tracking system into hundreds of additional vehicles.

The new contract builds on previous work in which the company designed and installed the friendly force tracking system for the military alliance headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. That work, which earned the company $7.8 million, brings the combined contract value for the project to $20.9 million, the company said.

The tracking system gives NATO high levels of tracking data and messaging traffic. It also enables the military alliance to identify where its personnel are located at all times and to identify other multi-national forces both in routine and operational situations.

NATO is an alliance of 26 countries from North America and Europe committed to fulfilling the goals of the North Atlantic Treaty signed in April 1949.

GlobeComm supplies satellite-based communication products and services to the government and commercial sectors.
